Bringing together a wealth of talent from across the Southwest at Caryford Hall in Somerset. This year our theme Finding the Light within the Darkness.

ANYONE is welcome to join us, you don't need to be a Yoga teacher to come along!

We are in person on Saturday 8th November and online on Sunday 9th November.

Wendy Teasdill - The Brihadaranyaka Upanishad:  Postures, Pranayama, meditation and relaxation as pathways towards the inner light of pure awareness

Sarena Mason - Yoga and Chant: Yoga and chant are often seen as very separate practices, with chant being something consigned to training/CPD days or too "strange" to share with students. In this Yoga & Healing Chant session Sarena will share simple, accessible ways to introduce chant to your personal yoga practice and for teachers, a way of normalising using our voice for healing.  We can act as bridge builders between the westernised view of physical yoga – and the authentic tradition of asana being but one tiny thread of a vast subject.  This will be a relaxed, informative, and experiential session.  (No singing ability required!) Sarena has over 25 years' experience as a cross-cultural healing chant student and teacher and is also a Vedic Chant Teacher in the Krishnamacharya tradition.  She completed her 2 year/500 hour YTT with the Devon School of Yoga, and continues her studies specialising in yoga for stress, burnout and fatigue and mental health.  Her chanting focuses on health, healing and spiritual connection.  

Nicola Walter - Cosmic Yoga: Finding light within the darkness is not always easy. But the stars within the nights sky can assist in shedding light during difficult times, particularly by helping us to master our Lilith. In Vedic astrological terms (Jyotish – science of the light) your Lilth is the point when the moon’s orbit is farthest from the earth at the moment of your birth. By examining the positive traits of the zodiac sign in which your Lilth falls, and then setting good intentions to reflect these traits within your thoughts, words and actions, one can learn to flood light over the darkness when it prevails. Having come prepared with a copy of your birth chart* (see below for details) we shall come together for the first 15 mins to establish the positive traits of the zodiac signs appearing among the group. Then after each attendee can develop a personal sankalpa for the asana practice which follows. The asana practice will be a gentle practice, with time to embody your heart-felt intentions whilst flowing through a range of sun and moon salutations, finishing with a relaxation. 

*Birth Chart - there are many free online providers you can use to run your birth chart, but I tend to favour www.dynamicastrology.com. For an accurate reading you will need to know the time of your birth. But if you don’t know it, then you can put 12pm noon, or an approximate time of sunrise on the day of your birth if that feels more intuitive to you.

Emily Burrough - Yang to Yin yoga : Shine from Within - We each have our own inner flame, which could be described as our spiritual heart, our passion or our awareness. This inner light is at the very core of our being - nothing and nobody can take this away from us.  In this practice, we will move with awareness of our own inner light, through a Yang to Yin flow, focused on keeping the inner flame burning.   

Steph Hiller – Sound Bath  bring a blanket & your usual props for relaxation to keep warm on your mat

Bertie Jesson - Hips (10.15am Live and Online): Hip stability and flexibility are integral to the health of the whole body.  An issue with the hips can move up or down the physical body (the kinematic chain) affecting backs, knees, ankles, shoulders, the hips themselves and even the ability to take a deep breath causing anxiety and even panic attacks.  Learning how to build strength in this area helps create a more elastic muscle that will be more willing to stretch. The session will cover a short theory introduction to the structure of the hips followed by a practical, staged, approach to Lizard Pose (Utan Pristhasana) that will work to open the hips working with hip extension, flexion, lateral rotation and abduction. Karen Patterson - Vishuddha Chakra (10am - 11.15am): Unlocking new potential in movement through the light of awareness. Karen Patterson has been teaching yoga for 33 years. Inspired by the ideas of spiritual teacher Heinz Grill, she helps students develop the qualities of the different chakras both in yoga practice and in life.

Audrey Blow - Our Light (time tbc): This 75 minute class will offer an exploration of how we can feel strong and powerful within the body, to find a sense of freedom, balance and joy in movement, breathing and being present. It will include asana, pranayama and meditation at a level suitable for all abilities. The lesson aims to remind us that Yoga is the way to practice turning towards our own light. (Recording available for 1 week)

Andrew Wrenn - Finding Your Sparkle (time tbc): Letting go to reveal a philosophical embodied practice. The more you let go, the more your true nature, your sparkle is revealed. An embodied practice loving shared to let go of tension from the body, soothe the nervous system and reveal the quieter aspects of heart and mind.

Hayley Giles - Interoception (3pm - 4.15pm): ‘I’m making a home inside of myself’ - Interoception is the key to deepening awareness within. When we focus on the body’s internal state, we understand our emotions better. This promotes homeostasis and good decision making. Leading to a calmer way of being. A journey through asana, breath and focus, ending with deep relaxation. (Recording available for 10 days)
