Our short courses may be undertaken by any yoga student keen to develop a specific area of learning related to yoga. Some courses are designed for experienced practitioners and yoga teachers only whereas others may be tasters for further training and development. Short courses represent a serious commitment to an intensive or medium term of study.

The course can be run intensively over a weekend, a week or longer depending on the overall aims and intended learning outcomes. The course can be as short as a 12 hour training over a weekend up to 60 hours over a 6 month period or longer. Please apply to the tutor directly for a student prospectus where suitability and entry criteria for any given course will be clearly stated.

Short courses may meet one or more of the following needs:

- Personal Development: Students will undertake a course of learning to enhance their own practice.

- Improve Teacher Skills: A course may provide specialist training just for Yoga teachers. Some include assessments where student teachers are observed applying their new skills.

- Working with Vulnerable people: Modules that focus on working with vulnerable people will usually have some kind of assessment element.

These courses may involve working with Children or Vulnerable adults. Students may be expected to hold a Disclosure and Barring Service certificate and a Safeguarding Certificate as a pre-course requirement unless it is part of the training itself. Please check the student prospectus carefully before applying.

Training Introduction

The Five Elements, or in Sanskrit - Panchabhuta, are the essential building blocks of our physical embodiment, and indeed for all manifest creation.  Yet the stresses of modern life, especially with the overreliance on technology, can often create imbalance between the five elements, leading to inevitable physical, mental and emotional disharmony.

This training explores the Five Great Elements in both theory and, importantly, practice. Students will be able to deepen their understanding of the interplay of the panchabhuta within them, and the importance of cultivating balance and integration between them. This in turn promotes deeper self-enquiry, as well as appreciation of the natural world that is so vital for our peace of mind and sense of well-being.

The training will draw upon some key yoga and ayurveda sources that can enhance the experience of the panchabhuta. Furthermore, it will explore imbalances with the five elements – physically, energetically, mentally and emotionally as well as  techniques, practices and insights to promote balance, health and harmony once again.

A wide variety of practices will be shared, such as asana (postures), mindful movements (flowing sequences), pranayama (breathing techniques), meditation (aware stillness), yoga nidra (deep relaxation), hand mudras (energetic gestures) and mantra (sacred sound). The teachers will guide these practices in the service of exploring and re-balancing the panchabhuta. Alongside this will be the opportunity to deepen the appreciation of the sacred Intelligence within each one of us, and within Nature, thereby promoting genuine holistic health and well-being.

How the Training Works

Swami Krishnaprem, an experienced teacher linked to Mandala Yoga Ashram, and Nikki Jackson, an experienced yoga teacher and yoga therapist, who runs the 580 hr Yoga Therapy training course, will be co-facilitating this training to help you connect to the Five Great Elements, within yourself, and within Nature, to enhance your self-understanding, and overall health and wellbeing.

The training comprises of five online two-hour evening sessions to explore each of the elements in turn, culminating in a 4-day retreat at the nature and yoga rich Mandala Yoga Ashram. The retreat will allow a deeper learning, assimilation and integration of the panchabhuta through skillfully guided practice, supported by walking and simply being in the beautiful and wild grounds and countryside of the Ashram.

Course Dates:

5th, 12th, 26th November, 3rd December, 7th January, and then 14-17th January for the residential retreat.

Course Cost:
