Training Introduction

I have really enjoyed the rhythm of the days and the strong sense of collaboration with my course mates and the course leaders. Audrey and Di have created a genuinely safe and supportive space in which to explore ideas and develop our practice. Their love of teaching, openness and generosity are evident, and it is a pleasure to learn in their presence. Alexia (2026)

Audrey and Diana are delivering a twenty-one month teacher training course that provides a thorough base of knowledge in the key aspects of yoga needed to teach.  These include:

  • Structural and functional anatomy of yoga from the simplest to the most challenging
    practices;
  • Developmental practices in breath awareness and pranayama - deepening awareness
    of breath, the vital life force of prana and how to include these in yoga teaching;
  • Stress management - exploring the underlying principles of yoga techniques to
    reduce stress and the skilful teaching of these practices;
  • Kriya, Bandha and Mudra - knowledge and teaching of cleansing and energizing
    practices;
  • Understanding and harnessing our energy body (Chakras, Nadis) in teaching;
  • Chanting practices - using the yoga of sound;
  • Meditation techniques and practical ways of teaching meditation;
  • Yoga Philosophy - Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads and how to incorporate yoga philosophy into classes;
  • History of Yoga - the background and the various yoga traditions;
  • Teaching theory and skills - effective communication techniques, teaching adults, lesson planning and course planning, adapting practices to suit individuals and progressing your students;
  • Skilful face to face and online teaching techniques;
  • Marketing, class management, administration, and finances;
  • Professional and ethical aspects of teaching yoga.
  • Developing a personal yoga practice in all areas.
  • On successful completion of the course, you will be entitled to use the BWY teacher logo, which is a widely recognised kite mark of quality.

The assignments feel evenly spaced, and I feel I have enough time to work on each one before the next is introduced. Overall, the course has been a very positive and exciting experience — occasionally overwhelming, but in a way that feels like stretching and growing rather than struggling. Ann (2026)

How the Training Works

The course is delivered over 21 months.  There are monthly meetings held on a Saturday for a full day of tuition, practice and discussion
at the Rudri Parish Hall, (https://rudryparishhall.org/). These days can also be accessed online via zoom should physical attendance not be possible. During the day some of the sessions will be recorded for students’ review during the month.  These recordings have proven to be particularly helpful for students'.

There are also 90-minute Sunday evening zoom meeting held monthly between course days.

The final two days of the course will be spent at a retreat centre in which the weekend will be devoted to study, review, wrap up and celebration of the tremendous acheivements of the students.
