Training Introduction

Are you ready to take your yoga journey to the next level?

Join this interesting and supportive 60-hour BWY Foundation Course led by experienced teacher and Diploma Course Tutor, Andrea Newman.

This course is not just about learning yoga poses – it's about deepening your understanding of yoga and enhancing your personal practice – starting from wherever you are. The structured programme will take you through an enriching process of learning and growth, expertly guided and supported in a friendly online space.

Who the course is for

This course is ideal for you if you wish to refine your home practice and broaden your understanding of yoga.

Physical limitations do NOT prevent full participation in the course, and it doesn’t matter what style of yoga you practice. Anyone curious to know more about yoga is welcome to apply.

The only essential requirement for application is that you have attended weekly yoga classes for at least 2 years. To access the course you will need a computer, internet connection, and a suitable private space for the group study days. You will need to get BWY membership if not already a member.

The course is also an essential preparation for anyone considering embarking upon yoga teacher training, clearly establishing you in your own practice before
starting to think about teaching others.

How the Training Works

Course content

Over the 9 months of the course, you will have the opportunity to delve more deeply into a wide variety of yoga practices including some not usually covered in weekly yoga classes. You will explore yoga history and key aspects of yoga philosophy and theory.

Following the BWY Foundation Course 1 syllabus, the course provides a comprehensive grounding in basic practical yoga techniques, in the context of the philosophy that underpins yoga.

Course schedule

With an online mix of 9 monthly Saturday Zoom study days (10am-2.30pm), 9 self-paced online modules (1-1.5 hours per month), and monthly Wednesday evening meetings on Zoom (6-7.30pm), you can access your yoga learning from anywhere.

You can log in to the home study modules of the course in your own time, which will give you flexibility in terms of when and how you study.

Zoom will be used creatively so that you have the chance to practice yoga, ask questions, discuss yoga topics, and connect with others on the course in a safe and supportive space. Working via Zoom works well for this course and also keeps costs down by eliminating travel and accommodation expenses.

Homework

You will keep a home practice diary throughout for self-reflection and as a record of your development during the course.

You will be given support and coaching from your tutor to help you refine and expand your own practice and self-reflection, and to stay on track as the course
progresses.

Reading from the course book (The Heart of Yoga by TKV Desikachar) will also be given for homework as a start point for discussion in the group.
