Training Introduction

The aim of the Diploma Course is to educate and enable learners, both professionally and practically, to teach yoga asanas, breathing practices/ pranayama, relaxation, meditation and concentration to clients that have a wide variety of capacities, capabilities and experiences. The course will equip students with an underlying knowledge and understanding of yoga principles and philosophy, but students are also expected to continue to deepen their understanding and knowledge through personal practice and reflection.


The BWYQ Level 4 Diploma in Teaching Yoga (RQF) can be studied as a progression route from the Level 4 Certificate in Yoga Teaching (RQF). 

The Regulatory Qualifications Framework (RQF) recognises this course as a level 4 qualification. It includes: 

Structural and functional anatomy of yoga from the simplest to the most challenging practices, including Dr Yogi's Yoga Anatomy 30-hour online course.

Developmental practices in Pranayama - deepening awareness of the vital life force and how to teach pranayama.

Stress management - exploring the underlying principles of yoga techniques to reduce stress and the skillful teaching of these practices.

Kriya, Bandha and Mudra - knowledge and teaching of cleansing and energizing practices.

Understanding and harnessing our energy body (Chakras, Nadis) in teaching.

Chanting practices - using yoga of sound.

Meditation techniques and practical ways of teaching meditation.

Yoga Philosophy - Patanjali' Yoga Sutras, Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads and how to incorporate yoga philosophy into classes.

History of Yoga - the background and the various yoga traditions.

Teaching theory and skills - effective communication techniques, teaching adults, lesson planning and course planning, adapting practices to suit individuals and progressing your students.

Skillful face to face and online teaching techniques.

Marketing, class management, administration, and finances.

Professional and ethical aspects of teaching yoga.

Developing a personal yoga practice in all areas.

On successful completion of the course, you will be entitled to use the BWY teacher logo, which is a widely recognised kite mark of quality.

How the Training Works

Introductory day 21 July 2024

Start Date: 22 September 2024 - End Date:18 April 2027 

Time: 9.30am - 5.30 pm third Sunday of every month

One residential weekend at the end of the course.
