This day’s training is designed to give you the skills to help teach your yoga classes in a more trauma-informed way. Delivery of the content will be through presentations, discussions and Q&A, but the focus will be on allowing you to engage on a more practical level with the opportunity to practice teaching in a trauma-informed way during the training.
Key topics to be covered
· You will explore the key principles of trauma-informed yoga
· You will have the opportunity to observe and practice how to use these principles in your own teaching.
· You will learn how to recognise symptoms of trauma in your students and what is the best way to respond
· The importance of cultivating a trauma-informed yoga environment will be discussed
· You will explore how and why yoga is so helpful for trauma survivors
· Recognising the need for self-care for those working with survivors of trauma is essential.
About Laura
Laura has been practising yoga for 30 years and teaching Vinyasa Flow for over 10 years; she is a Yoga Alliance E-RYT-500. She has also been teaching Trauma Sensitive Yoga for 6 years and is certified to facilitate Trauma Centre, Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) as an adjunctive treatment for Complex Trauma and Treatment-Resistant PTSD. This form of yoga originated at the Center for Trauma and Embodiment in Massachusetts, USA using the work of Bessel van der Kolk (The Body Keeps the Score) and David Emerson (Trauma-Sensitive Yoga in Therapy & Overcoming Trauma Through Yoga), who was one of Laura’s teachers.
