This session is suitable for people with some experience and understanding of Hatha & Raja Yoga.

In this session we will practice Hatha & Raja yoga together using the feel and sound of the breath, as a way to warm up your students to experiencing & focusing on vibrations that can lead to a place of stillness that prepares you for meditation.

Can the breath guide us into opening mentally and physically into Stillness?

The session will include Chanting in Sanskrit seated Meditation and Walking Meditation. We will discuss and share ideas on how best to introduce chanting & meditation in a class setting.

We will explore what Stillness means to you, on the mat and off the mat.

Please bring your normal yoga equipment and a strap of belt if you have one.

Sharon Ramdassingh-Dow
Based in Teignmouth, I am a British Wheel of Yoga qualified teacher with fifteen years teaching experience. I have also studied Buddhist Meditation for one year with Maarten Vermaase. My classes follow a traditional style of Hatha and Raja Yoga which focus on the physical postures for flexibility and strength but also the spiritual and philosophical foundations of yoga. I use a variety of breathing practices which will encourage you to breathe more effectively, but at the same time will help with your concentration and give you a sense of relaxation. My sessions have a strong focus on learning meditation or concentration practices which can help you to focus and to maintain a sense of calm in everyday life.

Session Objectives:

1. Create discussion on the meaning of Stillness.

2. Practice how we can use asanas to prepare the body & mind to become still & quiet in a class setting. Create discussion on verbal cues to guide our yoga students to this experience.

3. Discussion on how to introduce Chanting & Meditation in a class setting.

Pros and Cons of different practices that are suitable for beginners.

4. Experience a simple chant and meditation practice.
