Description
Come and update your skills or learn new ones to meet the needs of people that require a mainly seated practice.
I aim to make yoga from a chair fulfilling and restorative. The possibilities are many and depend on us as teachers being creative and thinking outside the 'box’ and our students being shown new possibilities and ways of moving. It’s also about the psychological impact of being less-able, whether due to the ageing process or a chronic condition.
The day will include:
- A complete taught, chair based practice for the less able and elderly based on the 8 limbs of yoga
- Discussion of common conditions to be found in an ageing population - osteoporosis, arthritis, Parkinson’s, lung disease, cardio-vascular diseases and diabetes, hip and knee replacement, chronic disabilities such as multiple sclerosis and conditions of the back
- Sharing of ideas to build a flowing chair based practice to enhance and enable yoga for the less able or elderly
- Work in pairs or small groups to plan a 20min session of chair based yoga and then teach other groups
- The day will end with a tutor led, chair based yoga nidra.
There will be discussion and sharing of knowledge – the day will also allow for students to ask about particular ‘conditions’ and needs of their students.
