Description
Death can be a taboo subject often avoided which can lead to being unprepared when it affects us closely. Yet other stages in life are discussed and we find our path through life clarified and eased by dialogue.
During this workshop we will explore the way death is viewed from a 21st Century Western perspective and look at the Eastern perspective referencing Yogic texts and Buddhist thinking. We will also analyse the physiology of frailty and near death signs, and discuss responses to death and dying from a personal and professional perspective, with particular focus on mental health and practical needs.
This is a day of discussion, interspersed with time for reflection, movement and meditation.
Open to all yoga practitioners.
Lina believes that yoga can be practised from the cradle and well into old age with appropriate adaptation. Her yoga teaching style is inclusive and therapeutic, emphasising breath, relaxation and meditation. As a BWY DCT she trained teachers but also continued her studies further, qualifying in Buddhist Meditation, Mindfulness, Yoga for Healthy Backs and Gentle Years Yoga.
This session is very interactive with participants bringing to it their own experiences. We will examine death from the Yogic, Eastern perspective seeing what the texts tell us, and also from the Western perspective how it is seen now. Both theoretical and practical ideas about death will be explored. We will look at how we can talk about death naturally and help others to do this too. CONFRONTING THE INEVITABLE CPD - Lina Newstead
Student Advice for Confronting death & dying 2025
On this morning please take care of yourself. This subject will deal with sensitive issues that confront us all but that we do not usually speak about with others freely. Sometimes issues may resurface from the past and there may be tears or even laughter. Please feel free to take time out of the day if you find yourself overwhelmed by emotions and go and make a cup of tea to recoup. Then do feel free to re-join the day. Please let me know you are doing this either in the chat function or texting my mobile numbers.
Please let me know by phone if you have ever had any adverse reactions when practising Yoga Nidra or meditation in the past
If after the day you feel the need to speak with someone about any issue that has arisen for you please feel free to contact me in the first instance. There are specialist organisations that can help like Cruise Bereavement Services and Marie Curie, details below.
I would like to reiterate that if you have had a very recent bereavement or been given a terminal diagnosis this day is not for you, and again I would recommend that you seek help via organisations that are out there to help you.
