Description
Exploring the Anatomy of the Foot and Lower Leg
The Foot and Lower Leg: Fascia, Fluidity and the Dynamics of Support
In this online workshop for the British Wheel of Yoga, Gary Carter of Natural Bodies draws on 37 years of teaching and research experience, including more than two decades of teaching for the BWY, to explore the foot and lower leg through the interconnected perspectives of fascia, fluid flow and the body’s inherent hydraulic dynamics.
We will explore how the plantar fascia organises spring, tension and elastic recoil, a and how the deep intricate structures of the foot contribute to a sense of uplift, generating free space and the potential to liberate the ankle, knee and hip joints. Drawing on the Dynsment theory, alongside myofascial relationships between the feet and pelvis, we will investigate how these dynamic relationships influence the organisation, balance and movement of the whole body.
Throughout, we will discover how these principles resonate with the work of Vanda Scaravelli, whose approach invites us to move away from force and effort towards a more subtle understanding of gravity, space, breath and the body’s natural capacity for movement.
