Description
There seems to be little logical, structured, developmental teaching or practice of Pranayama that covers the vast array of control, conditioning and attunement processes leading up to Classical Kumbhaka. And yet, there does exist such a structure spread over five general phases:
1/ FOUNDATIONS Control of the breath, maximizing the potential of the lungs, initial attunement of the subtle anatomy.
2/ DEVELOPMENTAL Holistic development of body, emotions, mind and spirit with the introduction of rhythmical breathing.
3/ ALIGNMENT Harmonisation of the Koshas.
4/ PURIFICATION of Surya and Chandra Nadis via rhythmical alternation of the breath through the nostrils and application of Bandhas.
5/ CLASSICAL The eight Kumbhakas.
This day long workshop will give participants a bird's eye view and experience of these five phases via lecture and practice. An explanation of the particular phase, giving an understanding of its physical and energetic aims, followed by a practical application of one or more practices taken from that phase.
The event is open to all practitioners and will also include integrated asana and relaxation practices.
Let us introduce Philip Xerri...
Philip was born in Cardiff, Wales. He was an accomplished athlete and rugby player in his youth. He became a ‘wanderer’ in his 20’s and then aged 28 walked into a yoga class run by Philip Jones in Cardiff. This was a major turning point. Since this time Philip has continually practiced and taught Yoga and Pranayama throughout the UK and Europe.
Philip went on to study yoga and Pranayama with Dr. Swami Gitananda in India 1980/1981, graduated with an honours degree in Comparative Religion 1984 and a Post Graduate Certficate of Education in Religious Studies 1985. He has experienced many different schools of yoga, qualified in Remedial Massage, Reflexology and Touch for Health.
He has also written manuals on 'How To Teach Pranayama', a short fictional novel based in India entitled “Seek And You Will Not Find” and has also produced a CD of Yogic Poetry and Stories which aim to portray various ‘spiritual’ concepts in new and different ways – often with a humorous twist!
Note: if you are keen to attend but have concerns of attending online we could arrange a venue in Derby where we can join the zoom call as a group. Any queries or suggestions please do get in touch.
