Description
This day is suitable for all levels of practitioner. Surya Namaskara is often seen as a corner stone of traditional yoga practice. It can sometimes feel inaccessible to some students, or over time the practice can become stale.
In this workshop we will explore each of the postures within the Surya Namaskara sequence, making them increasingly accessible and meaningful. We will develop the energetic aspects of the practice by discovering the impact of focusing on the chakras (energy centres) as we move through the practice and the impact of introducing mantra into the practice. Simple visualisation will be used to enhance the overall accessibility and experience of the practice.
Throughout the day each aspect of the practice will be introduced to make it accessible to those who are new to it or to increase awareness of the aspects of each practice for more experienced practitioners. The day will comprise asana, pranayama, mantra and yoga nidra practices. A recording of the Yoga Nidra practice including Surya Namaskara visualisation will be available for those that attend.
Nickie (Tulsi) has been teaching yoga for over 20 years and been a yoga practitioner for over 30. Up until September 2025 she spent 6 years at Mandala Yoga Ashram in Wales as manager and a senior teacher on many of their courses including Yoga Teacher Training, Advanced Yoga Teacher Training, Chakras, Kriya Yoga, Vigyana Bhariava Tantra, Tattwa Shuddhi and the one month residential Developing Sadhana Course. Her passion is enabling people of any background to experience the practices of yoga and meditation to bring a deeper understanding of what and who we are. She has experience of teaching in prisons, day centres, schools and hospital settings, working with people with a wide range of physical and mental health challenges. She works with accessible asana and pranayama in a way that focuses on the energetic effect of practice and naturally create the opportunity for exploring traditional, authentic meditation practices.
