Description
This day is aimed at teachers with an interest in musculature, as we will be looking at the form and 3D structures of the Psoas and Piriformis within the body, with explanations of the balance of them and their relationship with each other. We will also discover how these muscles are crucial to the stability of the pelvis and how various postures, coupled with the breath can create freedom in the pelvis, lower back and hip joints.
Tutor bio
Gary is a well-known, highly respected teacher of Yoga with over 25 years of experience in movement physical training, anatomical study and bodywork practices. He has lectured extensively on the anatomy of Yoga in the UK, Europe and America. He founded Natural Bodies movement & education, dedicated to teaching, training and encouraging kinaesthetic awareness, ease of movement and efficient body use. Gary's yoga background is based on the work and approach of Vanda Scaravelli which was not so much about executing postures but cultivating the conditions that allow the body’s natural intelligence to awaken.

Additional Information
Please wear layered clothing to ensure you are warm - even though it should be warm in June!
Birmingham Buddhist Centre is located close to Moseley Village high street.
The Birmingham Buddhist Centre is just a few minutes from the numbers 1, 35, 41 and 50 bus stops. The number 50 is closest. Coming from the city centre, Park Road is a turning to the right off the Alcester Road, just before Moseley village. The Birmingham Buddhist Centre is signposted.
There are hoops on the forecourt of the Buddhist Centre where you can secure your bicycle.
If you are coming by car, please consider offering a lift to someone else. There are just a few parking spaces on our forecourt including one reserved for disabled visitors (please use this only if you have mobility issues), otherwise there are spaces along the road.
Please be sensitive to the needs of the neighbours in Park Road when parking and don’t block them in. This road can get busy when there are class evenings and events happening. There is also free parking on side streets off Park Road at the ends of Augusta Road and Augusta Road East, which are a 1 minute walk from the Buddhist Centre. For Augusta Road, turn right down Park Hill, which is the next road on the right after Park Road if coming from the city centre, and take the first right into Augusta Road. For Augusta Road East, take the right hand turn before Park Road when coming from the city centre.
There may also be access via train, but Moseley Village station is currently under construction and due to be completed in autumn of 2025.
It is important that you inform the event tutor of any physical concerns that you have. You can do this by completing the BWY Health Questionnaire. If completed, please return your health questionnaire by email to the event organiser.
If you decline to complete and return the health questionnaire you are confirming that you have no health issues and are responsible for your own health and you agree to the disclaimer below:
Disclaimer:
Neither your tutor nor the British Wheel of Yoga are qualified to express an opinion that you are fit to safely participate in any British Wheel of Yoga organised sessions or any British Wheel of Yoga trained teacher's yoga classes. You must obtain professional or specialist advice from your doctor before participating if you are in any doubt.
All British Wheel of Yoga, Accredited Group teachers or Recognised Teachers and CPD tutors are appropriately qualified, with high standards of teaching and best practice. Where possible, your tutor may offer suitable modifications or adjustments and practices to suit different levels of experience and ability.
Please always let the tutor know before the class if this is your first time practicing yoga or if you are not confident about your experience and/or ability. Where you are taking part in live-streamed classes or events, please note that the tutor may not be able to see you at all times. Where you have declared a health condition, please contact the tutor before the event if you would like to request that you are provided with suitable modifications or adjustments wherever possible.
In all classes and events whether face to face, live streamed remote or pre-recorded remote, always follow your teacher's safety instructions and listen to your body. Where a movement or class is beyond your experience or ability, feels too difficult for you, or you experience any physical or emotional discomfort, please do not continue.
If you do not return a health questionnaire to your tutor prior to taking part in one of our events, your tutor will assume that you do not have any existing health conditions or concerns to declare. Please contact your tutor immediately (via the event organiser) if your circumstances change or speak to with your tutor prior to taking part in an event if you have concerns. Your tutor will be unable to make modifications or adjustments to the exercises for heath conditions or concerns that are not declared. You tutor will not be responsible where you fail to return the health questionnaire, or where you do not declare a health condition (whether by returning the questionnaire or in some other communication), and an issue arises as a result.
